Steel Pannist/Vocalist

Musician

Anthony Roach

Anthony Roach is a Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. His style incorporates elements such as classic rock, roots reggae, funk, soul, blues and jazz.

Born in Trinidad, Anthony immigrated to Montreal, Canada with his family in 1971 at the age of 3. His father was a member of Trinidad's National Steel Orchestra, The Exponians. They were brought to Canada for the popular World Fair, Expo 67 which was based in Montreal. Many of these band members, including his father decided to make Canada their home.  They formed the Montreal based steelband group, The Trinidad Playboys. Growing up with this musical infuence, Anthony quickly picked up playing steel pans at the age of 9.  Learning he had a passion for music at a young age, Anthony became a member of his father's steelband at the age of 12. As a teenager, Anthony developed a passion for rock music, through his peers and close Canadian born friends.  It was only a matter of time before his two worlds collided.

The steel pan will one day revolutionize the sound of music. Attempting to bridge the gap between musical cultures, Anthony incorporates the steel pan a.k.a. steel drums, in all his original compositions and musical arrangements, using various styles but mainly classic and pop rock.

More and more, popular artists and rising new stars are using the sweet sounds of this exotic, Trinidadian born instrument in their mixes. It would be fitting that the one who revolutionizes the sound of music with steel pan, be one who shares its origins.
